Getting a Job in a Difficult Economy
Are there things that make it more likely that you can succeed in obtaining a job in a bad economy? The answer is yes. Confident people radiate confidence. They are more likely to be chosen by interviewers when they look for that someone to fill the vacancy in their company. They are more likely to be perceived as being team players and usually walk away with the coveted job.
You can be one of them. If you research the company before you apply, you will know more about the firm than your competitors. This knowledge of the firm makes it easier for you to talk to your prospective employer. As you learn about the company’s needs and the industry at large, you can contribute more to the employer about how you can be the perfect match for his vacancy. One person who worked with me researched an electrician’s business. He knew what his potential employer was running into and what kind of clients that he served. My client got the job because he had ideas regarding helping his employer to beat the competition.
Next, practicing at interviewing is helpful. Getting in front of employers often helps you to relax and feel more comfortable in the interview. Increased comfort in the interview makes you appear to be more confident. When I work with clients, I often role play the interview situation. They practice in the therapy session and later practice more comfortably in the real interview. Getting informational interviews is one way that you can get yourself in front of potential employers. After you research a company and decide that it is a good fit for you, you can call the person in charge of hiring to obtain information about their company and how you might fit in when a vacancy becomes available. It is often a good idea to get an appointment with the employer to discuss ways that you can prepare yourself to work at his company. This interview helps you to network and also might give you another lead as the employer may know someone else who can use your skills. Job fairs are another way to talk to employers and to get practice presenting your skills and unique abilities to employers. I got a job after talking to someone at a job fare and presenting my resume. They did not need a social worker then, but a few weeks later, they called me because their social worker left and they considered me since I had been at the job fair.
Finally, hypnosis can be used to visualize the successful interview. Your mind will feel that it has had practice because you have visualized a successful interview. Your mind does not know the difference between the imagined interview and the real one. By using hypnosis, you can increase your comfort at interviews and can appear more confident. Hypnosis CDs used every night promote increased comfort and confidence when applying for the job. Using all three of these strategies, you can walk away with that coveted job even in a difficult economy.

My husband is the breadwinner but doesn't do household chores. I feel like a slave is this fair?
My husband works a desk job (NOT hard labor) 15 out of the 30 days a month. I don't work and we don't have kids.
Here is the situation: My husband comes home and gets on xbox immediately. He doesn't do any household chores what so ever. I am not exaggerating either. I on the other hand have to pick up his dogs poop, walk it, feed it and give it water everyday. I also cook his dinner and have to wash his clothes, dishes, and pick up after all his messes which include cleaning off his desk, cleaning HIS bathroom toilet and sink, and hanging up his clothes. I make his lunch, take out the trash etc.
Is this fair? Yes I am a stay at home wife and part of my job is to tidy up but is it right that I have to do every SINGLE thing? What do you all think? I feel more like a slave then a damn wife!
I am currently applying for jobs and considering enrolling in a local college
I CANNOT BELIEVE how many people on here are telling you to suck it up, you don't help him with his job, b.s, b.s, b.s.!!!!!!!!!!
listen, take it from me, someone who's in the same position as you. your husband IS NOT a child. he IS capable of cleaning up after himself.
since he's the breadwinner, then it's expected that you cook and clean and do other household chores (take out the trash, make the bed, laundry, etc). just basically things that makes the house tidy. that DOES NOT, however, mean that you have to clean up after him. my husband is the same way. i do all of the household chores, just for him to come home and mess it up after getting on the xbox. he leaves his uniform, boots all over the house after he takes them off. he finishes dinner and puts the dishes on counter instead of the sink. i mean, just 2 more steps and there's the damn sink! he leaves his video game cases scattered out everywhere and always leaves the t.v. on when he's done with it. i mean, does the thrill of turning it on excite him, but the hard work of reaching (not even getting up or straining) to turn it off wear him him out!!!!!!
ugh. it's so bad that i don't see a point in cleaning the house cause he'll just mess it up. but i do anyways.
so, when my husband makes messes, i don't clean them up. whatever is in my way that belongs to him, it either stays dirty or gets thrown away. he's starting to get the hint, but just not fast enough for me.
when he asks me to do something, i say that i'm too tired because i basically wipe his ass.
as far as the dog, he is the owner, and should be taking care of his dog. there's no debate about that. what the hell does he do the other 15 days out of the month? i don't see any reason why he can't clean up after himself........
