How should i answer this job application question?

Please comment on how your prior education and experiences qualify you for the type of employment you are seeking. Detail any past responsibilities and achievement.

I am not sure if I should do an all out list of all my achievements. Or do in essay format and basically just talk about myself.

By the way, this would also be my first real job application

Just list but in sentences... essays are more of school thing

Unhappy With Your Job? 10 Ways To Recognise Discontentment In Your Job

Unhappy With Your Job?

10 Ways To Recognise Discontentment In Your Job

Discontentment and unhappiness in a job takes many forms however, it’s unless we recognise that we are unhappy that we can then take positive steps to change our situation.

1:  Taking 'sickies'

When we are in a job that we dislike or cannot cope with, we begin to take ‘sickies’ so as to distance ourselves from the source of what’s  making us unhappy.  From legitimate reasons for being off work soon turns to using any excuse for our absence however implausible, just so we can avoid going to work.

2:  You avoid working

You have loads to do however you just can’t seem to get anything done let alone finish any tasks.  In fact, you may even start to watch the clock more than usual awaiting lunch time and the end of the day.

3:  You worry about work constantly

When at home you cannot tune off from work matters and at weekends you dread waking up Monday morning to go to work.  If you are not the type to withdraw into yourself, the you may find yourself talking endlessly about work to friends and family seeking answers and solutions to problems but fast becoming frustrated when you don’t hear a satisfactory answer to your work problem.  Furthermore, when at work you feel as though no matter what you do, it’s never good enough which de-motivates and de-moralises you further.

4:  Stomach crunches/headaches

Being in a job that makes you unhappy can cause headaches and sometimes stomach cramps.  Stomach cramps – that unpleasant feeling that you get in the pit of your stomach when you have to do a task that makes you feel uncomfortable and causes anxiety and stress.

5:  You become addicted to something to other things

When you are unhappy at work you may find yourself drinking, eating or sleeping more or due to stress and worry you may find yourself sleeping and eating less as you are wound up with anxiety.

6:  Withdrawn and distant

Where once you would have contributed to team meetings, you are now withdrawn and moody.  If asked to do something, you may have once got it done in swiftly so as to make a good impression – now however you do things when you feel like it.  You no longer engage with colleagues or take an interest in them. At home, you do not want to interact with friends, spouse or family and shut yourself off.  If your job involves a lot of constant communication once at home, if the phone rings you or you are asked to do something you easily become stressed and irritable as it reminds you of work.

7: You become defensive and angry

Everything from office gossip, to a challenging client bothers you.  You now take things to heart and are more sensitive.  This can lead you to become highly emotional and highly strung as you cannot contain the unhappiness you feel about your job and/or work environment.

8:  Physical and emotional problems

Insomnia, hair dropping out/receding hairline, tearfulness, teeth grinding and tension in our bodies, breathing difficulties, depression, anxiety, dizziness, poor concentration and memory some of these factors are linked to work related stress and can be hazardous to our long term health.

9:   Decreased energy, low morale and de-motivation

Getting out of bed requires energy yet you feel depleted of this, answering calls and having to deal with them requires thinking of what to say but you can no longer can apply yourself towards giving a good service.  You feel run down and everything at work seems like an added burden.  You want support but believe that you won’t get it from your boss so this de-energises you further leaving you asking yourself ‘what’s the point?’  You feel deflated, de-motivated and just plain tired.

10:  Lack of humour

Where you would have once laughed at a joke, you are now serious as your mind is consumed with work.  In response, people may tell you to ‘lighten up’ or ’I was only joking’ but it takes you a while to change from serious mode to one of light hearted relief.  Your inability to take a joke and unwind even for a brief moment whilst at work or at home may demonstrate that work thoughts have taken over and you clearly are not happy in your role.

So with all that in mind, imagine how you would feel if you left that job and felt free to pursue a job that really interested you.  What would it be like to feel as though:

  • A weight had lifted off you?
  • Like your ‘old’ self again?
  • Able to open up and engage with friends and family?
  • Renewed in mind and body?
  • Insightful
  • As though you have a clear head
  • You have new perspective
  • You are ‘Unchained’ with nothing holding you back
  • Energised to try something new
  • Free
