I love to travel, in fact, it's probably one of my most favorite things to do in the world. If I couldn't head out at least once a year to some distant and exciting place, I'm not sure I could keep myself interested in my job!

Sri Lanka? Yep! Not a lot of people consider it for a vacation destination but you really sure. Located in south central Asia, its a great place to get a totally different feel and vibe. With the recent ending of the countries long civil war, the entire region is becoming much more stable and perfectly safe. (not that it wasn't safe before, the fighting was pretty limited to a few specific regions).
Lets talk about the Sigiriya Fortress. What is it? Well, it's a castle. Today it's more of a garden city I guess you could say. It is composed of a monastery as well as a palace. It's known as the 8th wonder of the world, for good reason!
Located about three and a half hours from the capital city of Colombo, it's far enough away to be an adventure but close enough for kids.
It was once the capital of the country, long long ago. Now it's a UNESCO world heritage site. The fortress itself is shaped like a crouching lion. Actually, the "paws" are the only part of the lion still there today. They say the entrance was through the lions mouth!
Inside you'll find amazing geometric gardens that offer an amazing glimpse into Sri Lankan Urban planning which was very advanced for its time.
There's also an amazing water garden that shows advanced hydraulics used by the ancient Sri Lankans.
There just aren't that many truly ancient places like this left in the world today, and it's a real shame that more people can't take advantage of them while we still have them. This is something that your kids should see, and something that you should see too! Check it out today.
