How do I become a homeland security agent? and what is it?

what classes do i need to take? do i carry a gun? what is the job description?

There are literally millions of positions within the Department of Homeland Security. If you are thinking along the lines of a Federal Special Agent like popular portrayals of FBI agents, then you will be trained to handle a firearm and serve to enforce the policy and procedures of the department, whether that be assisting during a national disaster or working as a remember of a counter-terrorism unit. If you would like to become an agent first visit the Department of Homeland Security's website and search through the Careers page, this will be your primary reference. You will be expected to meet certain physical requirements, pass a rigorous background examination in order to receive a security clearance, and take numerous aptitude examinations. Serving in the military is not a requirement, however it is common knowledge that it will make you a much better candidate and from what I hear from my contacts in the industry, Special Forces designations are preferred. You will also be required to have at least a bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Political Science, Military Science, or a related field. As with all things having a masters degree or a Juris Doctorate degree (being a certified attorney) will defiantly help. Some colleges even offer programs in homeland security, however they usually take a more academic approach than actual hands on training, this however has it benefits as well. I know this is a lot to take in but becoming a federal agent is an extremely demanding process because the job requires the absolute best and there is a lot of competition. Hope this helps.

can you describe your job in a UK plant nursery or similar place?

i am interested in finding out what it is like working in a plant nursery, or something similarly related to growing, propogation and gardening...from the work to the hours/job security etc...not just links to job descriptions, but accounts from professionals themselves, if anyone here can spare a minute to briefly describe what they do.

I worked in a nursery as part of my education program in California, USA. It wasn't what I imagined it would be like. I waited on customers many of whom had no idea what to buy, I watered plants throughout the nursery each day with a heavy hose, I wore a hat and long sleeve shirts to protect myself from too much sun exposure, I distributed deliveries out onto the tables. I helped load up peoples' purchases into their vehicles. It was mostly physical work, alot of standing on cement, low pay and few hours and, for me, not very satisfying. I also worked in a greenhouse while going to school which I did enjoy but knew I wouldn't continue on there since the hours were few and the pay low. It was very restful, peaceful work. I planted seeds, transplanted, watered, prepared flower bowls, and was working on a breeding project where I pollinated specific varieties together.
