Top Tips for Joining The UK Police Force

We all know that the role of a police officer is considered a prestigious position and the force offers you many different opportunities along the way.

There are naturally going to be some qualifying that you will have to prove. Of all the qualifying requirements, you have to also bear in mind that the force office that you choose to apply to may have some variance on the requirements.

Age requirements are relatively simple and straightforward. You must be at least eighteen years old and the age limit for the upper ages is currently non-existent. The commitment to the force is pretty significant and many people recommend waiting a year or two after your eighteenth birthday before joining. This just gives you a little more time to mature and be sure.

If you are getting a little older and you are considering joining the UK police force, you are welcome to apply. There are identical prerequisites for older applicants and the younger applicants. You will be retired by the age of 60 to 65, which is something to consider carefully.

Your financial stability will come into question. You can't have serious debt or bankruptcy on your record within a certain number of years in order to become part of the force. The chances are high that you will have access to rather sensitive and secure information, and logically it makes sense to assume that someone in financial crisis can be compromised faster than someone in a good financial position.

The same idea applies to your criminal record. If you have any history of violent behavior or charges against you dealing in theft you can be sure that you will be rejected. However, people with criminal records that are small infractions and have a reasonable time gap between conviction and application can still be considered for a police position.

Physical issues will also be looked at carefully. Physical fitness and a strong medical history are required for training as well as for job performance. Your health and eyesight will be checked before you are granted a place in the training academy. Physical requirements apply to tattoos as well.

You can be rejected for visible or tattoos that cause offense as easily as you can be rejected for high blood pressure. By presenting yourself in a tight, professional manner is important, and tattoos can mean disrespectful nuances, even if you didn't intend it to be.

The UK Police Force Joining Requirements

It's an honor to join and serve with the UK police force, but there are specific prerequisites that you will need to meet before you sign up. There are many reasons to join, including the extra benefits of belonging to the force, but joining isn't for everyone. The simple requirements are easy to meet, but you should check in with the individual forces to ensure that they do not have stricter requirements.

The age requirement is quite basic. You must have reached your eighteenth birthday and you will have to decide for yourself if you are ready to join at eighteen. However, there are no restrictions that claim you are too old to join, provided that you meet the physical and other requirements.

Bear in mind the retirement age hangs right around 60. Since all recruits have to endure a 2 year probationary period in order to complete the training process. This can easily make it impractical to join after you've reached the age where your body no longer feels like it can make it through the two year probation.

You will need a reasonably clean financial record if you want to join the UK police force. This is basically for security reasons. If you are financially compromised you may very well be more easily corrupted in exchange for additional money. With judgments against you or a recent bankruptcy, you may very well need to clean up your financial issues before you apply.

Among the prerequisites for joining the UK police force is the need for a basically clean criminal record. We use the term basically because minor incidents that do not include violence or offense against the police force can be considered.

This is determined by the individual office, and thus it is recommended that you check with them to find out their criminal history restrictions. If you have any kind of record that reflects violence, you can be sure that you will be denied your application.

Your eyesight, hearing, and physical evaluations will determine your overall fitness for joining the UK police force. The very basic of requirements include being physically capable of doing the job and being able to handle the physical probabilities that come with the job. You don't have to be in perfect health, but you do have to be able to complete training and take to the streets safely. Corrected eyesight, and sometimes corrected hearing can still be considered for the force. It often depends on individual agencies.
