In the future, would robots take people's jobs?
I highly doubt every person who lost their jobs to technology will be interested in technology.
Robots have already taken some people's jobs. For example, from time to time a company will opt to reduce the number of its employees by implementing robotics in various production roles once filled by humans. The plastic items manufacturing industry is one example of a field in which robotics has produced this result in some cases.
Robots may still require human beings to build, program or repair them. But probably in general fewer human workers are necessary when robots are utilized-- hence the potential for cost savings in terms of salaries. Often robots can work around the clock and produce more goods with fewer variations; and, of course, machines do not require sick time, vacations or managerial attention.
I agree with you that it seems doubtful that every person who loses a job to technological innovation will be able or even interested in developing other specifically technology related skills (hopefully other employment opportunities will be available for workers who have been replaced by robots).
