Should I stop my job search and go to grad school?
I have recently decided to leave the top law school I've been attending for the past six months to pursue a career in book publishing. I graduated from a respected NYC university in 2005 with a B.A. in English and philosophy (ranked 11th out of over 700 students) . I am also about to publish a paper I wrote as an undergrad in a volume alongside established scholars (all of whom have Ph.Ds). I also have about a year's worth of office experience.
However, I'm finding it VERY difficult to find an entry level editing position at any publishing house in NY, big or small. Do most NYC publishing houses look for experience, even for entry level positions? Should I just bite the bullet and go to grad school for my M.A. in English Lit. and then try again?
I don't believe either of my majors were "useless." Many successful people have degrees in the humanities.
Also, an English degree is ideal for an editorial position in the publishing industry.
Why do people keep majoring with things like English and of all things Philosophy.... goodness me... This is the 21st century, philosophers lost use ages ago, unless you include Steven Hawking(thats not a flame, read up on what he actually does). You should of majored in something people will actually need. Maybe you can go back and do Journalism?

can your boss legal search your purse at random without a reason?
I work at a public library and my boss is wanting me to sign a contract saying that I will give her permission to randomly search my purse before I leave. I have worked at this library for 5 years. There is no probable cause (such as no money had been stolen and neither have any books). If I do not agree to these terms I will lose my job. Is this legal??
It is legal. Probable cause doesn't apply because your boss is not a police office and she is asking for your consent.
They are trying to establish a new policy within the library. It's intrusive but perfectly legal.
If you don't want your purse searched, your option is to simply leave your purse locked in your vehicle.
