Is there time limit on how you work on a job after you got fired from another in order to receive unemploymnt?
I worked at a county office in california for 10 years, until i got fired recently, and I'm working at another job now, but do I need to work form a certain amount of time in order to receive unemplyoment insurance.
I have 10 years of experience at my previous job, but I fired from it. Now I'm working somewhere else, but might get laid off soon... Im wondering does it matter how long I was employed at the new job in order to receive Unemployment Insurace?
You have to be at your previous job for 6 or more months in order to get unemployment. The amount you get is based on your highest earning quarter in the previous year. Keep in mind that you are not gauranteed UI if you are fired...the qualifier for UI is that you are unemployed through no fault of your own. If you were fired or quit for any other reason besides being laid off, you will have to interview with EDD before they can determine whether you are eligible for UI.
FYI ~ the fact that you are working another job now means that your UI will not be based on the county job, but on your current one.
UPDATE: To answer your updated question simply, YES, it does matter how long you have been at your current job. You have to have been at it for a minimum of 6 months in order to get UI benefits. In addition, any benefits you DO receive will be based on your current job. Unfortunately, your previous job that you held for 10 years doesn't matter at all when it comes to this, because you no longer work there. Even if you had been laid off from the County Office job instead of fired, it still wouldn't matter because you have a job right now. The most current job is the ONLY job that matters when it comes to UI.
