I am middle-aged, but I have been self-employed most of my life and have never made a resume. I do have a college degree but have not had an employer in many years and do not have much contact information to provide. Basically my story is that I did the same work, contracting, for the last twenty-five years, did a college degree along the way, and that is it except that I do have good knowledge of a foreign language. The work I did is not impressive and doesn't involve anything to speak of on a resume. How do I make my own resume, as I can't afford to pay a professional? Always put your latest job up first in your C.V. If you can speak a foreign language make sure you mention at what level. If you say your fluently in that language they will expect you to be fluent in it.

Resumes and cover letters are both important tools when searching for a new job. Both documents are written representations of you before you are able to represent yourself in person. When well written, they can open doors of communication, land you an interview and possibly a new job. There are key components to a resume and a cover letter. - An introduction stating the purpose of your submission, the position you are interested in, the location of the position and how you discovered the vacancy.
- Specify why the company and position appeals to you, how you can make positive contributions to their team, what skills you bring to the table, how your qualifications meet their requirements and why you are the ideal candidate for the position.
- Extend your gratitude for the review of your resume, encourage an interview and invite the recruiter to contact you or specify a time period in which you will call or email to follow up on your submission.
