Besides the excellent job outlook, why does everyone want to be a nurse?
I think this is the number one reason...It seems like only a small number of these people are actually doing it because they have a passion for it. What do you guys think? Also, where can I find the national percentages of applicants accepted into nursing programs (RN)
I agree with Lori's answer - the media makes it sound like there is a great need for nurses everywhere, and that is just not true right now. The economy has affected all areas of business, including health care, and there are just not a lot of open jobs out there right now. Older nurses who had planned to retire are still working and younger nurses who had cut back to part time or to not working at all are coming back to work...That may be the #1 reason so many people are going into nursing, but unless the job outlook changes in the near future, there are going to be many very disappointed new nurses out there.
