The Current Job Situation in Scotland

Not surprisingly, the current job situation in Scotland is much the same as in Great Britain and Ireland. Performance statistics, compiled by respected agencies, have shown that both in Scotland and surrounding areas, the labor market is improving. Clairmont Statistics, as well as the International Labour Organisation, has both shown that in recent years, the unemployment rate in Scotland is on a downward trend. This is good news for job-seekers and the nation as a whole.

The Scottish government has played a big part in the economic upturn. By implementing a stronger focus on local commerce and industry, the depression that has affected Scotland for much of the past ten years has finally been effectively reversed. There is now a strong and well-trained Scottish work force, and many major industries are based within the country.

During the very recent past, Scotland suffered, as did all four countries in the United Kingdom, as a result of the economic recession that has affected much of the developed. However, Scotland still boasts the second-highest employment rate in the UK. The most recent available data puts Scotland's employment rate at 70.7 percent.

How was Scotland able to show signs of improvement so soon, while much of the world is still suffering greatly due to the recession? The government's quick action, as soon as the recession was recognized, helped enormously. The government put plans into action that improved access to finance, worked to develop a low-carbon economy and therefore cut costs, and, perhaps most importantly, manage new and different pressures put on the labor market by the recession.

You may be wondering which job field to look into. There are many careers in Scotland which are showing excellent growth potential. Though it is not a career, temporary work is very popular right now, both as a means of filling the gap between more permanent positions, and also as a way to supplement an income that hasn't quite rebounded from the recession yet.

Since labor and work statistics are developed over time, we won't have a completely accurate picture of the current job market for a while. However, there are some excellent tools in place to predict the current job situation in Scotland.

The current job situation in Scotland is showing a large increase in jobs in the service sector. In fact, currently, every four out of five workers employed in Scotland today works in some area of the service sector. There is, however, a vast difference between the sorts of jobs in the service sector which are good bets for the future. For example, jobs which require extra training are expected to rise in demand and popularity. As this happens, lower-skilled jobs, such as those in restaurants, hotels and retail, are expected to decline, leading to a more skilled current job situation in Scotland.

Current Job Trends in Chemical and Civil Engineering

Civil engineering is a field that is catching a lot of attention from people who are interested in being a part of how things work and how things are made. Civil engineer jobs invite people to design structures and other items that include roads, bridges, buildings, tunnels, dams and water systems. Civil engineering is one of the most highly-regarded, reputable, and oldest engineering professions that exist. People who pursue civil engineer jobs need to be committed to finding out the best way to design things, following through to make them work, and determining how to prevent the structures from failing. It usually involves a lot of planning, developing, testing and designing in order to make a project work and ultimately be successful.

Chemical engineer jobs involve people who have skills and training in many different fields of engineering that may include mechanical, electrical, civil and structural, combining all of them to design and create solutions. Chemical engineers know and study the chemical makeup of materials used to build structures to figure out how they work and what needs to be changed or done to make them work better. Both fields of chemical engineering and civil engineering have experienced a lot of growth in the job market over the past few years. The popular sectors of engineering have found a home within a lot of different industries and companies and are continuing to see growth in many different areas.

Looming crisis ahead! There’s a dangerously growing shortage of skilled workers to fill jobs. Projections from the Bureau of Labor Statistics forecast a shortage of skilled 10,033,000 workers by 2010. And this shortage is simply raw numbers; it doesn’t fully address the growing skills gap. The numbers also don’t take into account the changing attitudes in the workforce. This crisis is just a...
