Ang Pilipinas Ngayon: Increasing Agricultural Productivity by Pangarap ng Pilipino Movement
As a mainly agricultural country, the Philippines takes pride in the abundance of food and food sources available at its disposal.
The population largely depends on our farmers and fisherfolks to sustain and strengthen food security in the country, which h has been considered vital in this age of globalization.
As experts would often say, when harvests are aplenty, it all the more energizes the economy.
Ang Pilipinas Ngayon, an advocacy program hosted by Caritas Executive Director Fr. Anton Pascual and Miss International 2005 Precious Lara Quigaman presents these developments in advocacy spots that air during the commercial gaps of TV Patrol, Showtime and Umagang Kay Ganda on ABS-CBN Ch. 2 and World Tonight and Top Story on ANC. Ang Pilipinas Ngayon aims to showcase and highlight the achievements of the Philippines in the last ten years to promote pride and awareness of the beauty and progress of our country.
To increase the food production capacity a comprehensive action plan was put forth and our government wasted no time in implementing programs to benefit farmers and fisherfolks and the public consumers.
More than 15,000 kilometers of farm to market roads are now operational for our farmers and fisherfolks, including the construction and upgrading of the Nautical Super Highway that makes the transit of products and goods from Visayas to Manila and vice-versa more convenient.
The Arroyo administration also embarked on massive construction and rehabilitation of national and communal irrigation systems that improved planting activities in vast agricultural lands across the country. It completed 17 new major irrigation projects worth P31.40 billion.
Parallel measures were also undertaken in implementing flood control projects to save agricultural lands from devastation. More than 1.4 million hectares of land were restored for agricultural development.
It also introduced and established 52 Bagsakan Centers and more than 300 Barangay Bagsakan Centers (BBC) throughout the country. BBCs are food depots and distribution system that offers affordable, safe, and quality food products such as meat, poultry, fish, vegetables, and fruits. BBCs link farmers and fisherfolks directly to the consumers.
Fisherfolks also got a boost with the establishment of 41 mariculture parks for the fisheries sector and the construction of 31 municipal fishports nationwide. More than 30 cold storage facilities were also set up for the marginalized fisherfolks.
Farmers’ incomes were also bolstered with the implementation of the FIELDS (Fertilizers, Irrigation and Infrastructure, Extension, Education and Training, Loans, Dryers and other post-harvest facilities, and Seeds) Program.
Other agri-business opportunities were also made available to the agricultural sector to ensure its steady progress. This includes the Tipid Abono Fertilization Program, rice and corn programs, government financial institutions and cooperatives, farming and post-harvest equipment, fish preservation technology, Palaycheck, Farmers Field Schools (FFS), and technology demonstrations.
In less than ten years, the agricultural sector has already generated more than 2 million jobs. Such developments also injected life to the country’s agricultural products exporting business.
The Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program (CARP) was also actively implemented, which was beneficial for more than three million farmers who can now till their own land.
Land distribution was pursued with enthusiasm as more than 40,000 hectares of farmlands were provided to farmer beneficiaries along with the issuance of 111,000 certificates of ancestral domain titles and 700 ancestral land titles.
Over P300 billion agricultural loans were released to help our countrymen in the agriculture industry and more than P800 million of Fertilizer Discount Coupons were given to benefit more than one million farmers all over the country!
Truly, Ang Pilipinas Ngayon, is a country united, globally competitive and progressive!

Channel 4 HD and BBC Red Button: Making Freesat Televisions More Appealing
With the recent announcement that Freesat will be adding a High Definition Channel 4 simulcast and BBC's Red Button service, televisions are becoming more than just broadcast conduits. They are multiple entertainment systems and the smart viewer is preparing for the coming revolution. 2
The first step is the purchasing of an HD TV. HD TVs have nearly five times the level of detail of standard televisions and often include digital surround sound capabilities. When Channel 4HD joins BBC1 HD, BBC HD and ITV HD in Freesat's HD line-up in April, viewers will be able to see every sequin in the extravagant dresses worn by the brides in My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding and every pore in the faces of the young stars of Skins. 2
HD channels are usually simulcast with their standard counterparts so HD viewers get all the extra quality of picture and sound with no loss in content. Sports fans particularly benefit from HD detail and, as evidenced by the sharp increase in the sale of HD TVs before the World Cup, they know it. For more information visit Videographer Gauteng
Television manufacturers and retailers already know high definition is the future, so customers should have no problems finding good HD TV deals. According to a December 2010 Ofcom report, 59% of UK households already have an HD TV. So, these days buying a new television that is not HD ready, is comparable to buying a television that only shows black and white pictures. For more information visit HD Filming Johannesburg
Channel 4HD's appearance on Freesat's service is only the beginning of the HD broadcast trend. Sky already has over 50 HD channels that will inevitably want to reach viewers outside the subscription service. Filming in HD is already common practice for all the top television shows.
In addition to increases in technical quality, viewers have come to expect a wider range of content options. BBC's Red Button service, combined with BBC iPlayer and ITV Player gives Freesat customers even more viewing options. They can watch the shows they want whatever day and time they want. Or they can access the wide range of interactive Red Button content, including exclusive videos.
Freesat has additional advantages over comparable services. Unlike Freeview, Freesat uses a satellite dish which provides near universal, high quality clarity independent from the strength of aerial reception. And unlike Sky, Freesat is not a subscription service. There is no cost other than the installation of a satellite dish and the purchase of a receiver box.
Clearly, Freesat has seen the future of television, in all its high definition glory, and is providing their customers with the means to get there.
