Job – A Post of Employment

"You got the job" "that's a very tough job" "my brother is looking for a job" "this job requires a lot of time and money to be invested in it" ‘Job' this three lettered word is heard so many countless times in the span of a day, but one hardly bothers on pondering over the fact that what it actually means.

Though a job has various meanings, for example even a person's obligations are many a times referred to as his job like "it is your job to help your mother in the kitchen" or a happening or occurrence or something of a particular nature, done by a person like "to make the best of a bad job". Another definition is some group or individual project or assignment being worked upon like "the housing project was one long and costly job" similarly the way a task is executed is sometimes called a job like "she did a very decent job yesterday". In computers a job is a unit of work; it generally has an application program or group of related programs along with the data, links and commands needed by the operating system for running the programs.

A job in the most general definition is any kind of routine work taken up by an individual that he does for a vocation for a fixed pre-negotiated pay. Basically it is a post of employment. Such a job can be part time or full time.

A part time job is generally taken up as a source of extra income by people who are either too busy or not qualified for a full time vocation. Part time jobs generally involve basic skills that do not require professional training, only basic education or sometimes not even that. People who take up part time jobs are generally students, house wives or temporarily unemployed people. There are different types of part time jobs available nowadays the market has increased several folds because of the increasing trend of outsourcing among companies. Part time jobs can be on the site or from home too. On the site part time jobs or jobs requiring the physical presence of the employee can be of part time waiters, live show hosts, paid campaign volunteers, babysitters, part time cooks, a tuition teacher, a hobby teacher or even a part time nurse or assistant.

The jobs that can be done from home are mainly online jobs; these jobs include data entry, proof reading, online article writing, online journals and counselling. Such jobs can be done after college, or in the free time or during weekends, though the pay is not as high as a full time job but then even the work load is very less. These kinds of jobs help students in becoming self dependant and sharing their education expenses with their parents, especially students staying away from home. For housewives it is like extra pocket money and for lowly qualified people it is an easy source of income.

As far as full time jobs are concerned they require a certain amount of qualification or a very great deal of recognised talent and expertise. These jobs generally have screenings and interviews and are pursued after the completion of ones education on a full time basis.

What can I do to get a job if I have bad references? Please help!?

I know that this sounds awful, but the past two jobs that I have had (both year long positions) ended badly in that I fell out with the manager and had trouble with absences and timekeeping (basically I was a sloppy worker)...and therefore I have two bad references. I have grown up alot since then and am a completly different person. I really don't know what to do because obviously this is going to affect my employability as they will give bad references. :( I've just finished college and need a job badly. How can I overcome this, any ideas? I was thinking about leaving those jobs out of my CV but then I have two big gaps in my career history that I can't fill and it will make me inexperienced. I know this is my own fault which is even more frustrating! Help!

If you were a student at the time (or even if you weren't, I guess) you can use that.
It was total BS, but what could have been my best reference and the most experience ended badly, so I left it out and told my current employer I was taking heavy course loads during that time... which was 2 years. It worked.

What not to Do When Resigning From your Job

Are you currently unsatisfied with your job or the company in which you work for? If you are, you may have considered changing jobs. If you have thought your decision over and decided that seeking employment elsewhere is best for you, you will need to resign from your current position. Unfortunately, for many individuals this is a lot easier said than done.

If this is the first time that you are attempting to hand in your resignation, you may be unsure as to how you should proceed. Perhaps, the best way to go about quitting your job, in the appropriate matter, is to familiarize yourself with what you shouldn’t do. A few of the many steps that you will not want to take, when quitting your job, are outlined below for your convenience.

One of the worst things that you can do, when looking to resign from your job, is quitting on impulse. This most commonly occurs after receiving discipline or when a work related conflict arises. No matter how upset or frustrated you are, you will want to try, at all costs, to not quit on the spot. This can not only reflect negatively upon you at the moment, but an impulse resignation may impact your chances of finding employment in the future. That is why you will want to try and give your employers notice, should you wish to seek employment elsewhere.

Speaking of giving your employer an appropriate amount of notice, when looking to change jobs, you are advised to do so in a reasonable amount of time. Most employers expect to receive at least two weeks notice. If you do not have a new job lined up, you may want to extend your notice time or offer to help your employer until they are able to find a replacement or until you are able to find employment elsewhere. It is also important that you submit your resignation in a professional matter. Try and do so in person, with a formal written resignation as well.

Another one of the many things that you do not want to do, when looking to resign from your current position, is bad mouth your bosses to others, including your friends, coworkers, or during future job interviews. You need to make sure that you do not “burn any bridges.” This is extremely important, as you never know when your words or your actions may come back to haunt you. You will want to ensure that your current employer, the one in which you no longer want to work for, is able to give you a glowing recommendation for years to come.

Another one of the many things that you will not want to do is “go out with a bang.” Even if you are quitting your job because you are unhappy with your pay or with your boss or other coworkers, you will want to leave as quietly as possible. You will want to put a happy smile on your face, no matter what your real emotions are. As previously stated, you will want to ensure that you able to use your current employer as a job reference for years to come. You also need to remember that you never know when you may come into contact with your bosses or coworkers in the future.

It is also important that you do not try and mislead your current employer in any way, shape, or form. If you are not planning to quit your job until you have a new one lined up, you will want to proceed with caution. You will want to make sure that your prospective employers will not contact your currently employer asking for a reference. To prevent this from happening, you may want to inform all prospective employers that you have yet to submit your resignation or submit your resignation before you start applying for new jobs.

By keeping the above mentioned points in mind, you should be able to submit your resignation without causing any harm to your finances or your good name. In all honesty, all you really need to do is just use your best judgment, as it is usually the best guide to follow.
