There is an art to customer service jobs that not so many people understand. If you understand it, you can open doors for yourself in some of the most vibrant and challenging industries in the UK. The first thing you need to know about customer service jobs is that they are not about letting your customers do what they want. The phrase "the customer is always right" does not mean that the customer is literally always right. If it did, then people doing travel agent jobs would be able to refund their customers every time the snow fell, or the rain came, or just give out tickets for free. No – customer services is about making the customer think that he or she is getting whatever he or she wants. So in reality customer service jobs are actually about making the customer think that he or she is right. "The customer is always right" means that you say "yes sir" (or madam) and are perfectly polite, while you cleverly steer your customer into a company approved place or purchase.
Travel agent jobs require this kind of psychological finessing to a greater degree than most. A lot of travel agencies operate in fast moving and stressful environments, where an employee or agent may be made to feel that he or she needs to get people through as quickly as possible and with as little fuss as possible. People who are old hands at customer service jobs will know the truth of another old maxim here – "more haste, less speed". This is not a command but an observation. The more you try to push your queue through, the slower everything actually becomes. In your haste, you overlook things that you have to go back and tidy up.
Level headedness, then, is one of the prime qualities of successful applicants for, and occupants of the posts in, travel agent jobs. You have to be able to deal with a large number of people, some of whom may not be very good at speaking your first language – and to steer the demands of these people down the right channels without letting them know that this is what you are doing.
That's why most travel agent positions are filled with veterans of customer service jobs from all trades and industries. The perks the employees get are legendary and spectacular – company holidays, which go down in the name of research, for example, and often very good family and friend deals on flights and accommodation. These are rewards for a very hard, though often stimulating trade. Travel agent jobs are as tricky as they come, and as rewarding as they get.

can someone with experience please refer me to an agent. i live in ohio and have heard the best way to get an agent is through referrals. i'd be happy to speak with you over the phone/email and discuss things with eachother before you refer me to someone. its completely understandable if you wish to speak with me BEFORE referring me to someone.
I would say it's hard to do this over yahoo questions. As an actor you should also be a good marketer - and I do not believe your target market is looking for you in this section. Have you tried local agencies? Your local chamber of commerce? Try to make connections with everyone, not just people you are directly interested in getting something out of. How would you feel if you found out someone's talking to you just because you can help them? It has to be a 2 way street... So try to find the kind of acting you're looking for. If it's advertisement, ask advertising firms where they hire their actors, through which agencies. If it's modeling, do the same.
By the way, I doubt anyone will want to refer you (whom they do not know) to someone they do know, with their name on the line, by just talking to you... be prepared. Get your resume together. Post it on craigslist. Create a webpage. Make a movie of yourself acting. Post it online. Make a case for yourself - only then will others be ready to spend their time and integrity helping you.

And that is certainly true. As a customer service expert, you do genuinely want to make your customers as happy as possible.
The difference, or rather the secret, in customer service jobs, like those travel agent jobs we've been talking about, is this. You want to make your customers as happy as possible within the boundaries that have been set by your employer.
There is a great deal of skill involved in doing a customer service job well. Your customer will only feel good if he or she is greeted properly; and if he or she is offered all the rules and conventions of the company you work for as though they were options, personally chosen for them. The key is in the wording, and the way you do things. As a customer service assistant, you smile and you use a polite and even tone – but you do not let your desire to be polite prevent you from enforcing company rules.
An example of good customer service jobs, as applied to travel agent jobs: a customer wishes to change his or her reservation without paying the appropriate fee. What do you do? You do not refuse point blank. If you are good, you will concentrate on agreeing to change the reservation so that your customer is focused on what you are doing for him, or her, rather than what you are not. Once you have steered your customer – politely – to the subject of reservation change fees, you will charge him or her, the correct amount.
Customer service jobs require skill, tact and dedication. Travel agent jobs, which deal with large sums of money and extremely important destinations, require all of the above in spades. If you can handle your customers, you will find the work rewarding indeed.
